Environmental Commitment

U.S. Green Building Council MemberVermont Plank Flooring is committed to promoting sustainable building practices, and embraces this mentality at home by actively keeping its carbon footprint at a minimum and selecting materials only from vetted, responsible harvesters. We are unwavering in our commitment to select timber from responsibly managed forests. Vermont Plank Flooring is an active member of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), a non-profit organization composed of leaders from every sector of the building industry working to promote buildings and communities that are environmentally responsible, profitable and healthy places to live and work.

The vision Vermont Plank Flooring shares with USGBC is the transformation of the way buildings and communities are designed, built and operated, enabling an environmentally and socially responsible, healthy, and prosperous environment that improves the quality of life for everyone. In the hardwood flooring we produce, and in the manner in which we produce it, we do our own small part to further this initiative.

All of our flooring is Old Growth, which means that the lumber we use comes from old, slow growing timber. The result is closely placed growth rings that make for a more stable floor with a finer grain and texture.

Enviro

We find these longer growing cycles, typical of northern-forests, in very close proximity to our operation in Brattleboro, Vermont. By actively choosing the highest quality timber from the closest well managed forests (typically within a 50 mile radius of our plant) we reduce transportation and the resultant carbon emitted into the atmosphere.

Is choosing a Vermont Plank Flooring hardwood floor a good choice for your eco-friendly home?

According to USA TODAY, John Suppes, the founder of Clarum Homes, a leading figure in the energy-saving "green building" movement, found that the most reliable material for a green home is "timber harvested in an ecologically sound manner." Our flooring is made from this material, and it lasts generations. We encourage you to contact us with any questions.
